When you mention you are from Ohio to someone they usually say "Oh, cool Home of the Buckeyes." While this is true, and we are very proud of the Buckeyes, there are many more things worth noting about Ohio that I bet most of you didn't know.Not so much a state of extremes, as a solid, predictable place built on the pioneer principles of hard work and family values. But when it comes to the state's luminaries, there is nothing predictable or ordinary. Ohio's famous sons and daughters range from movie stars to aviators, from presidents to titans of industry, and Ohio has sites to celebrate each and every one. I'm going to cover some facts about Ohio that you may not know.

Home Schooling In Ohio

Home schooling in Ohio is becoming more and more popular. Parents are deciding everyday to keep there kids at home and do home schooling through the internet. There are many different views about this and whether it is good or not. Vacation in Haunted Ohio

Do you like to be scared? Do you wonder what might be under the bed, in the woods or in your backyard? Do you like to go hunting to see if you can spot a ghost or two? Well then Ohio is the place for you there are many sights all over Ohio said to be haunted by those who have passed on. But please remember, all of the places listed below require permission to visit. Many of the places are patrolled by the authorities, and trespassers may be prosecuted.

Abbeyville, Ohio - Cry Baby Bridge - a train bridge in Abbeyville is reported to be haunted. Located on Abbeyville Rd, there are two different stories about this bridge. One being that a young girl back in the 1950's threw her baby off the bridge in an effort to hide her pregnancy. The church that is next to the bridge is also supposed to be haunted as black masses were held there decades ago.

Rocky Fork State Park

Ohio has many beautiful State Parks and Rocky Fork State Park is one of them. Located at 9800 North Shore Drive Hillsboro, Ohio. Rocky Fork State Park is nestled in Highland County and gets its name from the stream flowing through the park. This stream, winding over dolomite limestone, has eroded spectacular gorges and caves which we can enjoy today.

Vegetable Gardening in Ohio

There was a time when everyone who had the space to do it raised a vegetable garden. If it wasn't for the gardens and the food canned or preserved in the summer many would not have it through the winters. Now today in the world we live in it is much easier to go to the local grocery store and buy what you want. There are still some who raise their own food and as any Ohio gardener will tell you not only does home grown fruits and vegetables taste better then any store bought one it also saves them money all year long. Some even make a profit buy having roadside stands selling their home grown veggies and fruits.

It doesn't take a lot of money to grow your own garden. Nothing makes you feel better then to see the results of your work. Biting into a home grown tomato or cucumber is extremely satisfying knowing you raised it and that their is nothing artificial or no pesticides and that what your about to feed your family is completely safe is the best feeling ever.

Waverly, Ohio is a small town in Southern Ohio. As of the 2000 census there were 4,433 people residing in the city. Because Waverly is a small town everyone knows everyone. Fortunately Waverly is also a safe town. Even though Waverly is small there are things to see and enjoy.

Guide to Tailgating at the Ohio Stadium

I've never been a big football fan, except when it comes to the Ohio State Buckeyes. My Dad was a huge Buckeye fan. His way of tailgating was to watch the game at home and either before or after the game our tailgating party was in the back yard grilling hamburgers and hot dogs on a open fire, Soda for the kids and Blatz beer for our parents. If he could have gone to a game I'm sure he would have loved the way the Buckeyes do tailgating parties.

They've made tailgating an art, Instead of cooking out in parking lots and heading straight to the
stands like most tailgaters, Buckeye fans spend pre-game time taking in the sights in and around Ohio Stadium. The stadium's north rotunda is a favorite spot, along with Buckeye Grove in the south corner, which has one buckeye tree planted for every Ohio State All-American.

Hocking Hills State Park: Ohio

Located in the beautiful sandstone region of Southeastern Ohio, Hocking Hills State Park has some of the most scenic areas in the entire state. Rock outcrops, deep cool gorges, and waterfalls are found throughout the park areas. The beauty of the area is enhanced by the abundance of wildlife found throughout the Hocking region. Visitors to the park can almost bet they'll see Ohio wildlife such as white tailed deer, wild turkey or even the cumbersome box turtle. There are over 25 miles of trails winding through Hocking Hills State Park. Each trail is unique, offering visitors to the park breathtaking views of streams with cascading waterfalls, mysterious, dark gorges and rugged, awesome ridges. Trails lead to caves at Ash Cave and Cantwell Cliffs, through towering hemlocks at Cedar Falls and rises 200 feet above the ground along the rim of Conkle's Hollow.

These trails are beautiful and potentially dangerous. Caution and common sense are advised. Young children should be closely supervised. Find out what else Hocking Hills has to offer

Emmitt House Haunted Dining: Waverly Ohio

Waverly, Ohio is a small town in Southern Ohio with a lot of history. Lots of which center around The Emmitt House Restaurant. The City of Waverly was founded in 1829 along the Ohio-Erie Canal which ran for more than 300 miles connecting Lake Erie to the Ohio River.

Originally called Union, a name claimed by several other Ohio communities, the name of Waverly was suggested by an engineer on the Ohio-Erie Canal, Francis Cleveland. Cleveland had been reading Sir Walter Scott's Waverly Novels. Waverly's growth was closely tied to commerce on the canal, and James Emmitt, the town's first entrepreneur, made most of his fortune from canal activities.

He first hauled grain on the canal. Then he built a grain mill, followed by a distillery to make whiskey. Emmitt added other businesses as well as many acres of farmlands. In the 1850's he claimed to be the Scioto Valley's first millionaire, reportedly was Pike County's largest taxpayer and was said to employ half the men in Waverly. Perhaps Emmitt's most lasting achievement was a successful campaign from 1859 to 1861 to move the Pike County Court house from Piketon to Waverly.
