These camps fill up fast, so it is best to make reservations as soon as possible.

Go here to learn more about Ohio Summer Camps.

Community Action in Pike County Ohio

Pike County Ohio is a small county when compared to most. There are 25,000 people and 8,900 households in Pike County. People assume that in America in 2005 that most Americans live pretty well and do not have to worry about having the necessities of life. Such as food on the table, medicine, gas to go to work or heat in the winter, but this assumption is wrong as anyone who works or volunteers at Pike County Community Action Committee will tell you.

I called and talked to Annya Thompson she has been working for C.A.C for over 19 years. She does so much to try and help the needy families in Pike County. She told me "The need for the assistance programs they offer is becoming greater each year, and the funding that is available isn't even close to covering the needs. Some programs get no goverment grants at all."

The Community Action Committee Social Services Department in Pike County Ohio helps Pike County Families with food, housing, gas, and medicine. In the past year alone C.A.C has seen the need for food alone rise by 100%. They are helping on average 430-565 family's a month. The funds to cover the expense comes from employee donations, Fema and The Run for Shelter fund raiser typically held the 3rd week of July each year.
More

The Shawnee Indians of Ohio

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_ahLjhEubS-E/RhJHDahHt5I/AAAAAAAAADg/p7Ll75qdWfs/s320/000.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5049176256219166610" />

The Shawnee Indians were a friendly and brave tribe. A male child born to a Shawnee was given a name within ten days. A female child was named within twelve days. The name was either bestowed by a parent or by some trusted friend of the family, called a "conferrer". An "unsoma", or social classification usually determined by the clan into which one was born or adopted, was a chief consideration when the child was named.

The Shawnee Indians were living in the Ohio Valley as early as the late 1600s. The Iroquois Indians were unwilling to share these rich hunting grounds and drove the Shawnees away. Some went to Illinois; others went to Pennsylvania, Maryland or Georgia. As the power of the Iroquois weakened, the Shawnee Indians moved back into Ohio from the south and the east. They settled in the lower Scioto River valley.

The Shawnees spoke one of the languages of the Algonquian Indians, and so they are related to the Delaware and Ottawa Indians.The Shawnee Indians were allies of the French until British traders moved into the Ohio Country in 1740. The French pushed the British out of Ohio and the Shawnees became allies of the French again until the British victory in the French & Indian War . As French trading posts turned into British forts, the Ohio Indians, including the Shawnees, fought the British and their colonists. Cornstalk led the Shawnees against British colonists during Lord Dunmore's War in the early 1770s. During the American Revolution the Shawnees fought alongside the British against the colonists. The Shawnees believed that England would prevent the colonists from encroaching further upon the natives' land. After the war the Indians continued to fight the Americans.

The Shawnees were fierce warriors. They were among the most feared and respected of Ohio's Indians. Tecumseh was their most famous chief.

General Anthony Wayne defeated the Shawnees and other Ohio Indians at the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1794. The Shawnees surrendered most of their lands in Ohio with the signing of the Treaty of Greenville

More

A Guide to Filing Bankruptcy in Ohio

Should a person file bankruptcy? This a personal decision greatly influenced by the amount of serious debt and your ability to meet the original payments or pay the full amount. Being hassled by creditors when you are broke is nerve wracking for starters. Secondly, the decision to file should not be made solely to stop demanding creditors. Though filing temporarily stops creditors from engaging in out-and-out enforcement lawsuits, secured creditors can apply for "relief from the stay" and then continue their efforts to repossess or foreclose. Furthermore certain kinds of debts among them, student loans, alimony and support obligations, drunken driving restitution, and debts incurred through fraud can't be discharged in bankruptcy.

Depending on your circumstances, bankruptcy may or may not make sense for you. If after the bankruptcy you will be no better off than you were before, why do it? The decision as to whether and when to file a bankruptcy petition should be based upon the facts of your individual case.

New bankruptcy laws are expected to limit the value of the homestead exemptions. Also, new Ch. 7 restrictions will prevent anyone earning over the state median income from filing, Ch. 13 payments will be increased, and judges will lose judicial discretion imposing mandatory sanctions upon debtors in many new circumstances. These new laws narrowly missed passage each year since 2001, and may become effective at any time. Now, more than ever, timing and planning are critical.

Most Ohio bankruptcy attorneys who special in consumer/debtor cases offer free initial consultations. Virtually all private attorneys welcome opportunities to meet qualified potential clients. After debtors become familiar with current requirements, initial consultations offer an excellent opportunity to explore options and receive free legal advice, before deciding upon any course of action. If you have considered filing, make a detailed list of questions. Meet with several lawyers. By comparing costs, benefits and options without obligation, your most profitable path will become clear.

Find out more

Ohio, Home of many Well Knowns

When you mention you are from Ohio to someone they usually say "Oh, cool Home of the Buckeyes." Do you wonder what might be under the bed, in the woods or in your backyard? Do you like to go hunting to see if you can spot a ghost or two? Well then Ohio is the place for you there are many sights all over Ohio said to be haunted by those who have passed on. But please remember, all of the places listed below require permission to visit. Many of the places are patrolled by the authorities, and trespassers may be prosecuted.

Abbeyville, Ohio - Cry Baby Bridge - a train bridge in Abbeyville is reported to be haunted. Located on Abbeyville Rd, there are two different stories about this bridge. One being that a young girl back in the 1950's threw her baby off the bridge in an effort to hide her pregnancy. The church that is next to the bridge is also supposed to be haunted as black masses were held there decades ago.

Read the rest Here

Rocky Fork State Park

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_ahLjhEubS-E/Rgf_SPKEyeI/AAAAAAAAADE/dnuddVIoFCk/s320/11.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5046282596263447010" />

Ohio has many beautiful State Parks and Rocky Fork State Park is one of them. If it wasn't for the gardens and the food canned or preserved in the summer many would not have it through the winters. Now today in the world we live in it is much easier to go to the local grocery store and buy what you want. There are still some who raise their own food and as any Ohio gardener will tell you not only does home grown fruits and vegetables taste better then any store bought one it also saves them money all year long. Some even make a profit buy having roadside stands selling their home grown veggies and fruits.

It doesn't take a lot of money to grow your own garden. Nothing makes you feel better then to see the results of your work. Biting into a home grown tomato or cucumber is extremely satisfying knowing you raised it and that their is nothing artificial or no pesticides and that what your about to feed your family is completely safe is the best feeling ever.

Read the rest

A Guide to Waverly Ohio

Waverly, Ohio is a small town in Southern Ohio. My Dad was a huge Buckeye fan. His way of tailgating was to watch the game at home and either before or after the game our tailgating party was in the back yard grilling hamburgers and hot dogs on a open fire, Soda for the kids and Blatz beer for our parents. If he could have gone to a game I'm sure he would have loved the way the Buckeyes do tailgating parties.

They've made tailgating an art, Instead of cooking out in parking lots and heading straight to the
stands like most tailgaters, Buckeye fans spend pre-game time taking in the sights in and around Ohio Stadium. The stadium's north rotunda is a favorite spot, along with Buckeye Grove in the south corner, which has one buckeye tree planted for every Ohio State All-American.

Learn more about the Ohio Stadium

Hocking Hills State Park: Ohio

Cantwell Cliffs Picture

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_ahLjhEubS-E/RgB8AoiKmhI/AAAAAAAAACs/oSD1zgP6mPc/s320/cantwell+cliffs.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5044167932977519122" />

Located in the beautiful sandstone region of Southeastern Ohio, Hocking Hills State Park has some of the most scenic areas in the entire state. Rock outcrops, deep cool gorges, and waterfalls are found throughout the park areas. The beauty of the area is enhanced by the abundance of wildlife found throughout the Hocking region. Visitors to the park can almost bet they'll see Ohio wildlife such as white tailed deer, wild turkey or even the cumbersome box turtle. There are over 25 miles of trails winding through Hocking Hills State Park. Each trail is unique, offering visitors to the park breathtaking views of streams with cascading waterfalls, mysterious, dark gorges and rugged, awesome ridges. Lots of which center around The Emmitt House Restaurant. The City of Waverly was founded in 1829 along the Ohio-Erie Canal which ran for more than 300 miles connecting Lake Erie to the Ohio River.

Originally called Union, a name claimed by several other Ohio communities, the name of Waverly was suggested by an engineer on the Ohio-Erie Canal, Francis Cleveland. Cleveland had been reading Sir Walter Scott's Waverly Novels. Waverly's growth was closely tied to commerce on the canal, and James Emmitt, the town's first entrepreneur, made most of his fortune from canal activities.

He first hauled grain on the canal. Then he built a grain mill, followed by a distillery to make whiskey. Emmitt added other businesses as well as many acres of farmlands. In the 1850's he claimed to be the Scioto Valley's first millionaire, reportedly was Pike County's largest taxpayer and was said to employ half the men in Waverly. Perhaps Emmitt's most lasting achievement was a successful campaign from 1859 to 1861 to move the Pike County Court house from Piketon to Waverly.
Click to read more of Haunted Dining

Longs Retreat Resort and Campground: Latham Ohio

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_ahLjhEubS-E/RgB4yIiKmfI/AAAAAAAAACc/mzeAjHr_Po4/s320/longs.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5044164385334532594" />

Longs Retreat has things for the entire family to enjoy.
